Secret to making more shots
Distance judgment – usually easy to determine the distance
Targeting –
Second best way – fix your eye on a target on the front of the rim and shoot just slightly over that spot (2:15)
Back of rim – least favorite place to target
Bullseye method – shoot at the center of the bullseye
Shoot the ball above the basket – center of ball goes above the black dot in the center of the bullseye (4:30)
Looking through the underside of the basket. Use your imagination to see the black dot
(6:00) Arch
60 degree launch angle – 11:00 on clock is equivalent to shooting a 16″ rim
45 degree launch angle -10:30 on clock is equivalent to shooting a 12″ rim
Follow through 11 o clock
Launch angle at 11 o clock is more difficult from long range
52.5 degree is the suggested launch angle from 15″ (10:50)
Determining the correct launch angle (11:46)
Good arch = more swishes
Deflected makes – deflect off rim and deflict down into basket = good launch angle
Bounce around the rim and goes in is a good launch angle
Flat shot (13:26)
Bounce on rim and pop out
Come away hard off of the rim
PVC pipe assembly to help with launch angle (14:50)
(16:30 Good misses v. Bad misses
Missing right and left are bad misses
Short and long are good misses
Keep the elbow in just like you would to throw a dart to shoot a ball straighter
Face square
Lead shoulder and trail shoulder
Slightly turned with Hand, elbow, knee, eye, and toe in alignment (19:00)
More accurate free throw shooting drill (20:30)
Competition for the team
Free throw ladder
Winner gets all automatic free throws during game
10-15 shots
Grade the quality of free throw (Swish = 3 points, Nick rim goes in = 2 points, multiple bounces and in = 1 point)
